Author Overlord: Please tell me a little about your experiences in writing...
Mahogany SilverRain: I have been writing for publication since 2008. I have one children's book, My Rainbow Family, then moved into paranormal romance. I truly love what I do and writing has been a great way for me to express myself.
AO: It's fantastic when you discover what you need to do in this world, and it's what you love. What do you think makes your books unique?
MS: They are special to me, even the antagonists! They are flawed, but solid characters who breathe life into my books. The heroines who go through so much, and yet come through it all with smile. Sometimes with an explosion or two. I have been writing since my junior high days.
AO: Oh, great. Can I ask how long that has been?
MS: Over ten years. I have made a living from it more so in the last four years.
AO: Wonderful. Do you have any memorable moments you'd like to share?
MS: I wrote Wolf Daddy because of a special event in my life during my time in Colorado. He has made such a wonderful impression on me and we are quite happy with each other. So my book is based on a true love story.
AO: Who influences you?
MS: Charlaine Harris, Toni Morrison, Laurel K Hamilton, and Sylvia Hubbard
AO: How about advertising. What struggles have you found in this world of many writers?
MS: Making time for events, interviews, and posting on social media.
AO: What good/bad/ridiculous feedback have you received that particularly sticks out in your mind?
MS: Oh, those? Ha ha, I have had someone attack me has a writer, though she was reviewing my book. She never said anything about liking it not liking the book. Go figure. I've had people rate my books with four or five stars without leaving a review.
AO: Yikes! At least she was passionate about it, I guess. Tell me, what happened in your life that transformed you from a reader to an author?
MS: I wanted to write the stories I wasn't seeing on the bookshelves. Things I was curious about.
AO: Nice. Thank you so much for sitting down and talking with us, Mahogany. Is there anything you'd like to tell the world right now? (Such as links/webpages/etc)?
MS: Sure. Check out my website here: www.blogtalkradio.com/mahiganysays
