WOW, EVERYONE, you seriously have to hear about this movie I just saw! It’s called THE BREAKFAST CLUB, and honestly, it’s one of the most fantastic films I’ve stumbled upon in ages! I’m still buzzing from it! If you haven’t seen it, you are in for a real treat!
Alright, check this out: the movie starts with five high school students, all from totally different cliques – you know, the jock, the princess, the rebel, the quiet one, and the brainy kid – all stuck in Saturday detention. For the WHOLE DAY! In the school library! They think they’ve got absolutely nothing in common, but what happens as the day goes on is just... well, it’s pretty special. It's such a simple idea, but it leads to something truly brilliant!
And the young actors in this? They are phenomenal! I was so impressed by every single one of them!
There’s EMILIO ESTEVEZ playing Andrew, the wrestling star. He does such a great job showing that there’s more to the "jock" than just sports, and he brings a lot of heart to it. Really well done!
Then you have MOLLY RINGWALD as Claire, the popular girl. She’s got such a great presence on screen and perfectly captures that feeling of trying to live up to an image. I thought she was just terrific!
Okay, and JUDD NELSON plays John Bender, the rebellious one. He is absolutely electric! So much energy, and he delivers some incredible lines. He really makes you feel for this tough-guy character. A real standout!
ALLY SHEEDY plays Allison, the quiet, "artsy" girl. She’s so captivating to watch! She doesn't say much at first, but her expressions and the way she slowly opens up are just wonderful. I loved her performance!
And rounding out the five is ANTHONY MICHAEL HALL as Brian, the super-smart kid. He’s so believable and does an amazing job of showing the pressure that "brains" can be under. He’s funny and then can just hit you with some real emotion. So good!
And I have to mention PAUL GLEASON as Mr. Vernon, the principal. He’s the perfect foil for these kids, a great authority figure to push against!
Honestly, these five main actors have such incredible chemistry together. It's amazing to watch them interact. You'd think they'd all worked together a bunch before or something! They should definitely make more movies as a group; they just click so well!
I found out this movie was directed by a filmmaker named JOHN HUGHES, and wow, he really understood teenagers! It’s clear he had a special touch.
A lot of the movie takes place right there IN THE LIBRARY! And they make that one room feel like a whole world. It’s pretty clever how it becomes the backdrop for all their stories and interactions.
I also read that John Hughes encouraged the actors to improvise some of their dialogue. That makes so much sense because the conversations feel incredibly real and natural, like things actual kids would say. That’s a really smart way to make a movie!
Apparently, Mr. Hughes wrote the script really quickly. It’s kind of amazing that something with so much depth and humor could come together like that. He clearly had a real vision for it!
It really feels like everything just lined up perfectly to make this movie something special.
If you’re looking for a movie that’s more than just entertainment, this is it. The Breakfast Club really resonated with me, and here’s why I think it’s so fantastic:
It Feels So Honest: These characters talk about things that feel incredibly real – fitting in, pressure from parents and friends, feeling misunderstood. Even if their specific situations are different from yours, you can definitely connect with the emotions.
It Challenges Stereotypes: This is probably the coolest part. They all start off judging each other based on their labels, but as they talk and open up, they realize they’re not so different after all. It’s a great message about looking beyond the surface.
The Writing is Amazing: The conversations these kids have are just top-notch. It’s funny, it’s sharp, and then it can get surprisingly deep and touching. Some of the lines really make you think!
The MUSIC! There’s this incredible song at the beginning and end, "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by a band I think is called Simple Minds? It fits the movie PERFECTLY and just makes all the emotions even stronger. It’s an absolutely killer track!
It’s All About Connection: Watching these five very different people find common ground and even a bit of friendship is genuinely heartwarming. It shows that understanding can come from unexpected places.
That Dance Scene! There’s a moment where they just let loose and dance in the library, and it's pure joy to watch. It’s such a great, uplifting moment.
Seriously, I could talk about this movie all day. The Breakfast Club is more than just a "teen movie"; it’s a really thoughtful, funny, and moving film that has a lot to say. I felt like I’d really discovered something special after watching it. If you get the chance, definitely check it out. I have a feeling you’ll be glad you did! It's truly a standout film!
